What it is
The tool lets you pick other accounts, such as rivals or similar businesses, and tracks public numbers for them next to yours. You can see how fast they grow, how often they post and how people respond. Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Metricool and Later are among the tools that list it.
Why it matters
Numbers on their own say little. A rate of two per cent engagement could be good or bad, depending on the market. Comparing with similar accounts gives you a sense of what is normal, and shows which of their posts work. It helps when you set goals or report to management. Only public data is available, so it will not show a competitor's reach or sales.
What to check
- How many competitor profiles can you add on your plan.
- Which networks and which metrics are covered.
- Can you see their individual best posts, or only totals.
- How far back does the comparison go.
