Runs multichannel cold outreach with built-in email warmup, lead database, and deliverability scoring.

Why Lemlist

Lemlist orchestrates cold outreach across email, LinkedIn, SMS, WhatsApp and calls with a 650M+ lead database, email warmup, and unified inbox. It targets B2B founders and sales teams who want list-building and multichannel sequencing without stitching separate tools together. The platform handles personalisation, deliverability monitoring, and AI-assisted reply management.

Best for
Lean B2B founders and small sales teams running multichannel cold outreach who want a lead database, personalisation and warm-up in one tool instead of stitching several together.

What it does

lemlist is a sales engagement platform for outbound. You find or import leads, enrich them with verified emails and phone numbers, and run sequences across email, LinkedIn, calls, WhatsApp and SMS from one workflow. A unified inbox collects the replies from every channel.

The vendor also offers a lead database of more than 600 million contacts, intent signal agents that suggest and track buying signals, and a Deliverability Hub that monitors mailbox and domain health. You can run outreach from lemlist itself, from your CRM or from an AI assistant.

Why you would need it

Cold outreach breaks in two places. Messages that look the same as everyone else's get ignored, and messages that land in spam are never seen. lemlist is built around both problems: personal, creative messages, and the infrastructure to reach the inbox.

I started using lemlist in 2017, when personalised images were its signature feature, and I have kept it in my stack ever since. It has grown from a cold email utility into a full sales engagement platform, but it still keeps its focus on personal messaging.

Where it fits

lemlist sits in the middle of your outbound motion. Leads come in from your CRM, a CSV, forms, LinkedIn or its own database. Sequences go out, replies come back to the inbox, and activity syncs to your CRM. It replaces a stack of separate tools: a data source, a sending tool and a warm-up service.

Alternatives in this library are Instantly, Smartlead, Reply.io, Mailshake and Apollo.

What stands out

  • Multichannel sequences with conditions, so a prospect who does not answer an email gets a LinkedIn visit a few days later.
  • Built-in deliverability tools, including Lemwarm, which comes with the plans.
  • A lead database and enrichment, so you do not need a separate data tool to start.
  • An official MCP server and an API, so AI assistants and your own systems can work with it.

My take

What I value most is the flexibility to build sequences that mirror a real conversation. Someone who replies positively is taken out of further steps automatically, and I rarely switch tabs because the inbox collects every email and LinkedIn message.

I ran Lemwarm for a fortnight before heavy sending, and the tool flags risky words and DNS gaps before a campaign launches. The trade-offs are real. Advanced conditional logic needs some grasp of Liquid syntax, and the multichannel steps take junior staff time to learn. Pricing has also climbed over the years, so you need disciplined lists to justify it. Still, one campaign with a well-made image and an AI icebreaker can book meetings that cover a long stretch of fees. It remains my preferred platform.

Verdict

Pick lemlist if you are committed to personal, multichannel outbound and want data, sending and deliverability in one place. Skip it if you only need a simple email sender, or if nobody on the team will invest in learning the sequences.

Before you choose

It takes time to learn

Simple sequences are quick. Conditional logic needs Liquid syntax, and multichannel steps add complexity. Give new team members time, and write down a standard sequence so they do not start from zero.

Cost grows with ambition

There are separate plans for email only and for multichannel, and add-ons for data enrichment and buying intent signals. A lead database also uses credits. Decide which channels you will really use before you choose, because the multichannel plan is wasted on a team that only sends email.

LinkedIn automation has risk

LinkedIn states in its help centre that it does not permit third-party tools that automate activity on its site. If you automate LinkedIn steps, you carry that risk for your account. Keep volumes low and personal.

Compare it with the alternatives

Instantly and Smartlead focus on high-volume email sending. Apollo combines a database and sending. Reply.io and Mailshake sit nearer to lemlist. Run the same small campaign in two of them before you decide, and check the legal rules for cold outreach in your target countries.
