Gong
Why Gong
Gong is a revenue-intelligence platform that records, transcribes and analyses customer-facing conversations across calls, meetings and email. It layers AI-driven insights about deals, forecasts and coaching recommendations on top of conversation data, syncing results back into the CRM. It suits sales and revenue teams managing pipelines.
What it does
Gong records and transcribes customer calls and meetings, then turns them into signals about deals, forecasts and coaching. It describes itself as a revenue AI operating system. The idea is that every customer conversation becomes data your team can act on. It reads across calls, meetings and email and syncs results back to the CRM.
Why you would need it
Sales managers rarely hear most of their team's calls. They rely on what reps write in the CRM, which is thin and often optimistic. Forecasts come from gut feeling and the coaching is a few shadowed calls a quarter.
Gong closes that gap. It shows what was actually said, which deals are quiet, and where reps struggle in the conversation. The manager coaches from real calls, and the forecast rests on activity rather than hope. New reps also have a library of real conversations to learn from.
Where it fits
Gong sits on top of your CRM and your meeting and email tools, reading what happens in them. Your CRM stays the system of record beside it. It can replace a separate call recorder, a sales engagement tool and a forecasting spreadsheet.
The product is one of several that Gong sells under one roof, so check which parts you would actually switch on. If you only want call notes, a lighter note taker such as Fathom or Fireflies is a simpler fit.
What stands out
- The Revenue Graph links every interaction to accounts and deals.
- Gong Forecast adds accuracy analytics to forecasting.
- Gong Enable uses an AI trainer built from real calls.
- AI agents draft follow-ups and correct pipeline and forecast fields.
- Gong Engage helps prioritise and personalise outreach.
My take
I would buy Gong when the sales team is big enough that no manager can listen to everything, and when forecast accuracy has a real cost. The value is in coaching and forecasting at scale, not in recording calls.
What I would watch is cost and fit. There is no public price, so budgeting needs a sales process. A per-user licence plus a platform fee adds up for small teams. And a founder who sells alone, or a team of two or three, will pay for depth they do not use.
Verdict
Pick Gong if you run a sales team of real size and want calls, pipeline and forecasts in one system. Skip it if you only want call notes, or if you cannot yet justify a quote-based, per-user price.

No public price
Gong asks you to fill in a form and get a tailored proposal. Licences are priced per user, plus a platform fee based on the number of users supported. There is no free plan listed. Ask how the platform fee scales with your headcount before you start.

Overkill for a small team
Three people can get call notes for much less. Compare Fathom, Avoma, Fireflies and Chorus against what you actually need.
Adoption is the real cost
The value depends on reps and managers actually using it. Plan the coaching routine before you buy, or it becomes an expensive recorder.

If forecasting is the main need, look at Clari as well.
