SMS / multi-channel
On this pageWhat it is
What it is
This means the tool can send SMS, and sometimes other channels such as WhatsApp or push notifications, alongside email. The point is that one contact record and one set of automations cover several channels. For example, a shop using Klaviyo or Omnisend can send an abandoned basket email first and follow with a text message if the customer has not opened it.
Why it matters
Text messages are read far more quickly than most email, which makes them useful for time-sensitive messages such as delivery updates, appointment reminders and short sales. They also carry stricter rules. You need clear consent from each person, a way to opt out, and in many countries a registered sender ID or number. If your customers mostly engage by email and your messages are not urgent, you may not need it at all.
What to check
- Which countries can you send to, and what registration or sender ID setup is needed first.
- How is consent recorded and how is opt-out handled automatically.
- Can one automation mix email and SMS steps, or are they separate tools inside the same product.
- How is SMS delivery reported, and does it show clicks and replies as well as sends.
