Buffer
Why Buffer
Scheduling social media posts across multiple platforms from one dashboard saves time and keeps content consistent. Creators, small businesses and agencies use it to plan, publish and analyse posts on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok and other networks. It includes comment management, team approval workflows and an AI content assistant.
What it does
Buffer is a social media management tool. You plan, create, schedule and analyse posts for channels such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, YouTube, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, Mastodon, X and Substack from one dashboard.
It also has an ideas library, an AI assistant for drafting and refining posts, a unified inbox for replying to comments, insights, team collaboration with approvals, and Start Page, a link-in-bio builder.
Why you would need it
Posting by hand on each network is slow, and it falls apart in a busy week. Posts go out late, the same message gets pasted into five apps, and nobody remembers what ran last month. A spreadsheet content calendar does not publish anything.
Buffer gives you one queue. You line up posts once, pick the times, and the posts go out. You also see what performed, so next week's plan starts from data instead of from a hunch.
For a small team the shared calendar matters as much as the scheduling. Everyone can see what is planned, what is waiting for approval and what already ran, which stops two people from posting the same thing on the same day.
Where it fits
Buffer sits between content creation and each network's own scheduler. It works with Canva, Google Drive, Dropbox and Unsplash, and with Zapier and Claude. It replaces platform-by-platform posting and the spreadsheet calendar. It does not replace your analytics or your CRM, which should track the leads that arrive from social.
What stands out
- Wide channel coverage, including newer networks such as Bluesky and Threads.
- Pricing per connected channel rather than per user, which keeps a small account cheap.
- A usable free plan, with the AI assistant included from the start.
- An official MCP server on every plan, plus a developer API.
- Approval workflows and permissions on the Team plan.
My take
Buffer is the tool I would suggest to a small team that wants scheduling to be boring and reliable. It does the basics well and does not bury you in features.
The trade-off is depth. Analytics are lighter than a dedicated social analytics tool, and the inbox is basic next to platforms built for large teams. Per-channel pricing is also fine for a few accounts and adds up for a brand that runs many. I would check how many channels you really use before choosing between the lower and the team plan.
Verdict
Pick Buffer if you are a creator, small business or agency that wants reliable scheduling with light analytics and no steep learning curve. Skip it if you need deep social listening, heavy approval chains or reporting for a large team.
Notes
Your note
Before you choose
Per-channel pricing adds up
Each connected channel costs money. For one brand with three channels this is cheap. For an agency with many client accounts, add up the channels first, and compare it with tools that price by seat.

Analytics and inbox are light
Buffer gives you answers on what worked, not a social listening suite. If you need sentiment tracking, brand monitoring or heavy reporting, compare Sprout Social, Hootsuite and Metricool.
Approvals sit on the Team plan
Approval workflows, unlimited team members and branded reports come with the Team plan. If a client or manager must sign off every post, you need it.
Alternatives to compare
Look at Later, Publer, SocialPilot and, for LinkedIn only, Taplio. Pick based on which channels you post to most.
