What it is
Notion ships and documents an official hosted MCP server supporting Streamable HTTP (recommended) and SSE fallback. Also offers a self-hosted open-source server (@notionhq/notion-mcp-server) but it is deprecated and no longer actively maintained. MCP uses OAuth authentication.

How to automate Notion AI

Native integrations

Connect Slack, Google Drive and GitHub so that Enterprise Search and agents can read them. A concrete first agent is one that answers repeat questions in a Slack channel from your own docs.

MCP server

Notion AI has no separate MCP server. The official Notion MCP server reaches the same workspace. A client like Claude can search and update Notion pages over OAuth. Use it to ask for a status summary of a project database from outside Notion.

API and webhooks

The Notion REST API lets your own systems create and update pages and databases that the agents then work on. Push new support tickets or HubSpot notes into a database and let an agent triage them.

Built-in automation

Custom Agents are the built-in automation. Set one up for the weekly report: it gathers updates from the project database and writes the summary page. AI Meeting Notes can then send summaries to Slack or email.
