Asana vs Notion AI

Asana logovsNotion AI logo
Asana is a structured task and project tool with clear owners and deadlines. Notion AI is the agent and meeting notes layer inside a Notion workspace. Pick by where your team already keeps its work.

The verdict

If your problem is ownership and deadlines across many projects, pick Asana. If your team already keeps its docs, projects and decisions in Notion and wants agents and meeting notes there, pick Notion AI.

I would not buy Notion AI to solve a task tracking problem, and I would not expect Asana to be a wiki. I moved a team from Asana to Notion, mainly because we needed a knowledge base and flexible content management next to tasks. That was about consolidating tools, not about Asana failing at project tracking. If you are not on Notion at all, Asana is the simpler decision.

Who each is for

Asana logo

Choose Asana if…

Pick Notion AI if Notion is already your system of record and you are on, or willing to move to, the Business plan. The value is context. An agent that can read the real project database is more useful than a chatbot with a pasted summary.

Meeting notes work without a bot joining the call and land next to the project. Heavier agent use is metered in credits, so watch the usage dashboard from the first week. Skip it if the team does not use Notion for the rest of its work, because you would be buying a workspace upgrade for one feature.

Choose Notion AI if…

Pick Asana if your work follows a set process and each task has one clear owner. A marketing team running multi-step campaigns or an agency coordinating client work gets the most from it, because ownership and dates are visible to everyone.

There is a free plan and paid plans, and goals, portfolios, advanced reporting and automation depend on the plan. It also has an official MCP server for outside AI assistants. It rewards discipline, so start with one team and one process. It is a weaker fit if you need heavy documentation next to your tasks.
