SSO & SCIM provisioning

What it is
SSO & SCIM provisioning combines two things. SSO lets people sign in with the company login. SCIM is a standard that lets your identity provider create, change and delete accounts in the tool automatically. When HR adds a new employee to the company directory, they get an account in the tool without anyone doing it by hand. 1Password supports this.
Why it matters
Manual account management is slow and easily forgotten. The usual failure is a former employee whose account in a side tool stays active for months. Automatic provisioning means access follows the company directory, joining, moving teams and leaving.
It is valuable for companies with frequent staff changes or compliance duties. A team of five does not need it. As with SSO, it is often limited to higher plans.
What to check
- Which identity providers does the SCIM connection work with?
- Can it also manage groups and permissions, or only individual users?
- What happens to a person's data and shared items when their account is removed?
- Is it available on the plan you are considering?
