Custom domain & branding

What it is
Custom domain and branding lets customers see your name rather than the vendor's. The help centre can live at an address such as help.yourcompany.com instead of a vendor subdomain, and you can set your logo, colours, fonts and sometimes the wording of emails and the chat widget. Tools such as Zendesk, Intercom, Help Scout and Document360 support this, often tied to specific plans.
Why it matters
A branded help centre looks like part of your company, which builds trust and keeps customers inside your own domain. It can also help search engines associate the content with your site. It matters most for customer-facing support. For an internal tool used only by staff, it hardly matters. Check the details, since removing the vendor's logo or using a custom domain is sometimes limited to higher plans.
What to check
- Can you use your own domain, and is the security certificate handled for you.
- Which parts can be branded, for example the help centre, the chat widget and outgoing emails.
- Is the vendor's logo removable, and on which plan.
- Can you control the layout and styling beyond logo and colours.
