Admin & audit controls

Manage users and policies centrally as an administrator, and see a log of who did what and when.

What it is

Admin and audit controls give a company oversight of a tool. Administrators can add or remove users, set policies such as password rules or two-factor authentication, and review a log that records actions such as sign-ins, shared items and changes. LastPass, a password manager, offers these controls for business accounts.

Why it matters

When several people share logins and sensitive data, the business needs to know who has access and to be able to cut it off quickly when someone leaves. An audit log also helps after an incident, or when a client or auditor asks for evidence. It matters most for teams handling customer data or shared credentials. A one-person business may not need much of it.

What to check

  • What events appear in the log, and how long is it kept.
  • Can you export the log or send it to another system.
  • Can you enforce policies for all users, or only recommend them.
  • Which plan includes these controls.
