Exact Online
Why Exact Online
Exact Online is bookkeeping and accounting software designed for managing business finances and keeping comprehensive financial records. It supports accounting tasks, invoicing, and complete financial management for small and medium-sized businesses. The platform helps streamline bookkeeping workflows, accounting processes, and overall financial management and comprehensive reporting.
What it does
Exact Online is cloud accounting software from a Dutch company. It covers bookkeeping, sales and purchase invoicing with payment links, bank transaction processing, VAT and ICP filing, and fixed and current assets.
It has grown beyond that into CRM, project administration, HR, payroll and ERP. The vendor now offers four AI agents: Purchase (invoice processing), Bank (matching transactions), Debtor (collections) and Support.
Why you would need it
Bookkeeping is a recurring chore that grows with the business. Invoices arrive by email, bank lines need matching, VAT returns are due, and your accountant asks for the same files again.
You feel the pain at quarter end, when the numbers are not ready and someone spends a weekend entering invoices. A system where invoices and bank lines mostly book themselves, and where your accountant works in the same system, removes much of that.
Where it fits
It is your accounting system of record. Bank feeds go in, invoices and receipts go in, and reports and filings come out. The vendor says it monitors well over 100 million transactions each month. There is an app store for extra tools, and a mobile app for invoicing and receipt scanning.
It replaces spreadsheets and, for small businesses, a separate invoicing tool. Compare it with Moneybird and Twinfield if you are choosing in the Netherlands.
What stands out
- Accountant collaboration. The vendor says it is used by more than 10,000 accountants, which matters because you and your accountant share one system.
- AI agents on the plans. The vendor claims 98% accuracy for the Purchase Agent and a reduction in days sales outstanding of up to 20% for the Debtor Agent.
- Dutch tax coverage, including VAT and ICP filing.
- A documented REST API.
My take
I'd pick it when your accountant already works in Exact, or when you want a Dutch-built system with the paperwork in Dutch. The AI agents are a sensible place to start, because invoice entry and bank matching are the dull jobs.
What I'd watch is the cost growing as you add. Limits on users, administrations, bank connections and invoices decide which plan you need, and add-ons such as payroll are separate. Count them before you pick a plan.
Verdict
Pick it when you are a Dutch business with an accountant who likes Exact. Skip it when you are very small and only send a few invoices, or when you operate outside the Netherlands.

Before you choose
Limits decide the plan
Plans differ by number of users, administrations, bank connections and invoices. Extra users and administrations cost more. List yours before comparing plans, and check the live pricing page, which shows the plans in euros.

Regional fit
This is a Dutch product with Dutch filing built in. If you run a company outside the Netherlands, check that the tax features you need exist for your country.
Check the AI agents against your volume
The vendor's accuracy figures are claims. Run one full month of real invoices through the Purchase Agent and check how many you still need to correct.
Alternatives to compare
Moneybird and Twinfield are common choices in the Netherlands. For invoicing only, look at Stripe invoicing or Chargebee.
