Exact Online vs QuickBooks

Exact Online logovsQuickBooks logo
Exact Online is a Dutch accounting system with VAT and ICP filing built in. QuickBooks is Intuit's cloud accounting with a free plan, best where Intuit sells and supports it.

The verdict

If you are a Dutch company with a Dutch accountant, I'd pick Exact Online. VAT and ICP filing are built in, and many Dutch accountants already work in it. If you operate somewhere Intuit sells and supports QuickBooks, and your accountant knows it, pick QuickBooks, and start on its free plan to see if the workflow suits you. In both cases ask your accountant first. The best accounting software is usually the one the person checking your books already uses. Check local VAT and bank connections before you commit to either.

Who each is for

Exact Online logo

Choose Exact Online if…

Pick Exact Online if you are a Dutch small or mid-sized business and want one system for bookkeeping, invoicing, VAT filing and bank reconciliation, with the paperwork in Dutch. The vendor says more than 10,000 accountants use it, which matters when you share the books. Its AI agents take the dull jobs, invoice entry and bank matching, but run a full month of real invoices through them before you trust the accuracy claims. Count your users, administrations and bank connections, because those limits decide the plan. If you are very small and send few invoices, it can be more than you need.

Choose QuickBooks if…

Pick QuickBooks if you operate in a market where Intuit sells and supports it. The free plan has one user, which makes it a low-risk way to test the workflow. Paid tiers add users, and every paid plan includes access for accountants. A large partner app list helps if you sell through several channels. The catch is regional fit. Local tax, VAT and bank connections decide whether it works at all, and the free plan has no accountant access. For a Dutch business, compare it with Exact Online, Moneybird and Xero first.
