Moneybird vs Paddle

Moneybird logovsPaddle logo
Moneybird keeps the books and files VAT for Dutch small businesses. Paddle sells software abroad as merchant of record and handles the tax on those sales. Different jobs, and they often work together.

The verdict

If you run a Dutch or Belgian business and need invoices, expenses and VAT under control, I'd pick Moneybird. If you sell software or digital products to customers worldwide and want someone else to carry tax and compliance, I'd pick Paddle.

A software company in the Netherlands could reasonably use both. Paddle takes the sales and pays you out, and Moneybird records the payouts and your own costs. Because Paddle is the seller, check how its invoices and payouts reach your bookkeeping before you commit. Ask your accountant what they need.

Who each is for

Moneybird logo

Choose Moneybird if…

Pick Moneybird if you are a Dutch or Belgian freelancer or small company who wants the simplest route to clean invoices and a prepared VAT return that you can file from the product. It takes payments by iDEAL, QR code, direct debit and card, and tracks time that feeds invoices.

It has a documented REST API on every plan and an official MCP server. It is not for multi-entity reporting, heavy inventory or complex international accounting. Plans are limited by processed bank transactions, so check your volume. Integrations are built by third parties on the open API.

Paddle logo

Choose Paddle if…

Pick Paddle if you run a SaaS, app or digital product business that sells internationally and does not want to register for tax in each country. It covers payments, a localised checkout, subscriptions, invoicing and fraud protection, with Retain for failed payments.

There is no monthly fee. It charges a share of each transaction plus a fixed amount, which becomes a large number as revenue grows. Paddle is the seller, so it sets rules for what you can sell, reviews your account first and appears on customers' statements. Very low-priced products need a custom quote.
