Lemon Squeezy vs Moneybird

Lemon Squeezy logovsMoneybird logo
Lemon Squeezy sells digital products worldwide and handles the tax as merchant of record. Moneybird is Dutch bookkeeping, invoicing and VAT returns. They do different jobs and often sit side by side.

The verdict

If you sell software or digital downloads to customers in many countries and do not want to run tax yourself, I'd pick Lemon Squeezy. If you run a Dutch or Belgian business with client invoices, expenses and a VAT return to file, I'd pick Moneybird.

Many small companies need both. In that case, think about how the sales reach your books. Because Lemon Squeezy is the seller of record, check how its invoices, refunds and payouts show up in your bookkeeping before you commit. Also read what Stripe's ownership means for the product.

Who each is for

Choose Lemon Squeezy if…

Pick Lemon Squeezy if you are an indie developer, small SaaS team or digital creator and your first customers come from several regions. You get checkout links, subscriptions with trials, licence keys, digital downloads and discount codes, and the tax question is handled.

It does not replace bookkeeping. You still need somewhere to record what you earn and spend. It also only fits digital products, so physical goods need another tool. The fee is a share of each sale, which includes the tax work. The vendor's blog lists Stripe acquiring it, so read what that means for sellers.

Choose Moneybird if…

Pick Moneybird if you are a Dutch or Belgian freelancer or small company and want the simplest route to clean invoices and a prepared VAT return. You can file VAT from the product, take payments by iDEAL, QR code, direct debit or card, and track time that feeds invoices.

It is not a tool for selling digital goods across borders, and it is not built for multi-entity or international accounting. Plans are limited by bank transactions, so check your real volume. Connectors for shops and payment providers are built by third parties on its open API, so confirm that yours exists.
