What it is
Vetted talent means the marketplace checks people before listing them. The checks can cover identity, portfolio, test tasks or an interview. Fiverr is an example of a marketplace that offers a vetted option. Instead of browsing thousands of open profiles, you choose from a smaller group that has already passed a review.
Why it matters
Hiring from an open marketplace costs time, because you must sort good from poor candidates yourself. A vetting step moves part of that work to the platform. It matters when the work is important, when you lack the skill to judge candidates, or when a bad hire is expensive. It matters less for small, low-risk jobs where you can judge a portfolio quickly. Vetting reduces risk but does not remove it, and the choice of people is usually narrower.
What to check
- What exactly is checked, and how often is it checked again?
- Is vetting applied to every seller, or only to a special tier?
- What happens if the work is poor, such as a replacement or a refund?
- Do vetted sellers cost more than unvetted ones for the same work?
