How to automate Dropbox

Native integrations

Dropbox connects with the tools around file work, and Chooser and Saver components let other apps pick and save files in Dropbox. A good first rule: save every signed contract from your e-signature tool, such as Dropbox Sign, into a client folder named after the deal.

API and webhooks

The developer platform has a Files API and a Paper API, plus webhooks for change notifications. Use a webhook to tell your team in Slack when a client uploads to a shared folder, or to start a processing job when a new file lands.

MCP server

Dropbox publishes an open-source Dash MCP server in its GitHub organisation. It is tied to Dropbox Dash, so check what it covers and which plan it needs before you count on it for plain file access. A concrete idea: let Claude search your connected content for last quarter's client proposals.

No-code automation

Zapier lists a Dropbox app. Use it to create a client folder when a deal is won in your CRM, or to copy new form attachments into Dropbox.
