Revolut Pro vs Stripe

Revolut Pro logovsStripe logo
Revolut Pro is a free business account with invoicing for freelancers without a company. Stripe is developer-led payments infrastructure for online businesses. Pick by whether you code your checkout.

The verdict

If you are a freelancer or sole trader with simple needs, and you mainly want business money kept apart from personal money, pick Revolut Pro. If you run a software or online business and want payments, subscriptions and invoices tied into your product, pick Stripe.

For most small B2B teams that sell online, I would lean to Stripe, because it scales and plugs into the rest of your stack. For a solo operator invoicing a few clients, it is more than you need. The two can also coexist, with Stripe taking payments and the payout landing in a business account. Neither is a bookkeeping tool.

Who each is for

Choose Revolut Pro if…

Pick Revolut Pro if you are a freelancer, sole trader or side-hustler who does not want to register a company. Setup is a few taps in the app you may already use, and the account has no monthly subscription. Payment links, invoices and QR codes cover simple ways of getting paid.

Watch the processing fees on card payments, which are higher for international and commercial cards, and check features for your country. If you incorporate, the vendor points you to Revolut Business. It is a money app, so check how statements reach your accounting tool before you move your invoicing.

Choose Stripe if…

Pick Stripe if you build software or sell online and have a developer, or can get one. You can start with a first payment and grow into subscriptions, usage billing, tax and a platform, all on one account. It has strong documentation, webhooks, a CLI and an official MCP server.

You pay per transaction, and the cut grows with volume. Add-ons such as Billing, Tax and Sigma cost extra. Payment links cover simple cases, but anything custom needs engineering time. Once your billing and tax sit there, leaving is slow. It is not an accounting system, so you still need one.
