Framer vs Squarespace

Framer logovsSquarespace logo
Both build polished sites without a developer. Framer gives designers more control and an AI agent on the canvas. Squarespace is simpler, with a blog, store and scheduling built in.

The verdict

If someone on your team has a designer's eye and the site is part of how you stand out, pick Framer. It is quick, the output looks good and the free plan lets you build before you pay.

If you want a credible site live this week with the least thinking, pick Squarespace. It suits a brochure site, a portfolio or a simple store, and its trial needs no card.

For a small B2B team the call is close, so I'd go by who will own the site. A designer or marketer who wants control should have Framer. A founder or office manager who wants it to just work should have Squarespace.

If neither gives you enough control, Webflow is the next step up. If the site needs more commerce than Squarespace offers, look at Shopify.

Who each is for

Framer logo

Choose Framer if…

Pick Framer when design quality matters and the people who own the site are not developers. It suits designers and marketing teams who want to ship pages and experiments without waiting for a developer.

The CMS and hosting are included. The vendor also describes working from outside the editor, such as updating copy from Slack and external coding agents. Treat the AI features as new and check each change before you publish.

Watch the limits. Pricing is per site, extra editors cost money and pages, CMS collections and bandwidth are capped by plan. A site on Framer lives in Framer, so moving later means rebuilding. Framer is not made for stores or complex apps.

Squarespace logo

Choose Squarespace if…

Pick Squarespace when you want a polished brochure site, portfolio or simple store up quickly, and design matters more than custom functionality. It has commerce, scheduling, invoicing and memberships built in, plus multiple contributors with roles.

I picked it for my dad's site because it is so straightforward. A polished site was live in a few hours.

The trade-off is flexibility. You cannot freely reshape layouts, and code injection is a workaround. Page speed is decent, not the fastest. There is no free plan, only a 14-day free trial. Also check how form leads reach your CRM before you build.
