Framer vs Shopify

Framer logovsShopify logo
Framer is a designer-friendly builder for marketing sites. Shopify is a hosted store for selling products at scale. Pick Framer to present, Shopify to sell.

The verdict

If selling products is the business, pick Shopify. Checkout, payment handling, stock and orders all work together from day one, and its app and developer ecosystem is large.

If you run a company that sells services, software or consulting and needs a sharp marketing site, pick Framer. You can change a headline, build a campaign page and publish the same day.

Some teams use both: the marketing site on Framer and the shop on Shopify. That can look better than a store theme, but it means two systems to keep in step on branding, analytics and links. Only do it if the brand site really matters.

I'd not try to run a shop on Framer. I'd also not buy Shopify just to host a company website.

Who each is for

Framer logo

Choose Framer if…

Pick Framer when the marketing site is owned by design or marketing and speed of change matters. It suits designers and marketing teams who do not want to wait for a developer.

The CMS and hosting are included, so blogs, case studies and landing pages are managed in one place. There is a free plan, and the AI agent works on the real canvas, so you can inspect what it did.

Plan for the limits. Pricing is per site, extra editors are charged per seat, and localisation and A/B testing are add-ons. A Framer site cannot simply be exported and run elsewhere. For a big shop or a heavy back end, look elsewhere.

Choose Shopify if…

Pick Shopify when you sell physical or digital products online and want a hosted store instead of building your own. It suits brands and small businesses that would rather pay a fee than maintain code.

You get a storefront, checkout, payments, orders and shipping, point of sale tools for selling in person, and an Agentic plan for listing products in AI channels. A GraphQL Admin API and an official developer MCP server help if you want to connect other tools.

Watch cost creep. Apps, themes and payment fees add to the plan price, and features such as subscriptions and reviews often come from third-party apps. The free trial is short, so have your products and branding ready before you start it.
