Ahrefs Brand Radar
Why Ahrefs Brand Radar
A brand monitoring tool that tracks mentions across AI answer engines including ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity. It reports share of voice, sentiment and custom prompt tracking against competitors. Available as an add-on to paid Ahrefs plans, built for marketing and SEO teams monitoring AI visibility.
What it does
Ahrefs Brand Radar tracks how a brand appears in AI-generated answers. It covers ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Gemini and other AI platforms. You can follow custom prompts that your buyers are likely to ask, see an AI Visibility Index for your brand against competitors, and look at which pages receive AI-driven traffic.
It also watches AI bot activity on your site, and it tracks mentions on places such as YouTube, TikTok and Reddit that feed AI answers.
Why you would need it
More buying research now starts with a question to an AI assistant instead of a search box. If a prospect asks for the best tool in your category and you are not in the answer, you never see that lost lead. Your analytics show nothing, because there was no click.
Brand Radar makes that invisible part visible. You see which questions mention you, which competitors get named, and what the AI says about you.
What changes in practice
You stop guessing what AI says about you. A weekly look at your tracked prompts shows where you are named, where a competitor is named instead, and which sources the answer relied on. That tells you where to publish, where to earn a mention and which pages to improve. It also gives you a number to report next to organic traffic, which helps when you have to explain why clicks are flat while interest is not.
Where it fits
It sits beside your rank tracker and your analytics rather than replacing them. It extends the SEO stack into AI answers, so you get a second visibility metric next to organic position and referral traffic. It is part of Ahrefs, so it reads best if you already use the main product.
What stands out
- Custom prompt tracking with daily checks, and prompt suggestions based on competitors.
- Coverage of several AI platforms in one dashboard.
- AI analytics that connect AI visibility to pages on your own site.
- Tracking of off-site sources such as Reddit and YouTube, which are often what AI answers draw on.
My take
I would pick Brand Radar when you already take SEO seriously and want early insight into how AI engines describe you. The idea is sound, and the free custom prompts that come with paid Ahrefs plans from Lite upwards are a low-risk way to start.
What I would watch is that this is a young category. There is no agreed benchmark for good visibility yet, and AI answers vary from one run to the next. Use the data to spot trends and gaps, not to chase a single score.
Verdict
Pick it when you already invest in SEO and want structured visibility into AI answers. Skip it when you have no search tracking in place yet, because the basics will pay back first.
Notes
Your note
Before you choose
It is an add-on
Brand Radar is sold separately from the main Ahrefs plans, so it is another line item. Some custom prompt tracking comes with paid Ahrefs plans from Lite upwards. Try that included allowance before you buy the full index.

Limits scale with the tier
The number of prompts and checks depends on what you choose, so heavy monitoring costs more. Count how many questions your buyers actually ask an AI tool, and match that to the limits.
A new category with moving results
AI answers change between runs and between platforms. Treat the data as a trend, check it with a few manual searches of your own and do not tie targets to one number.
Alternatives to compare
Several newer tools do the same job, such as Profound, Peec AI, Otterly.AI, Scrunch AI and the AI toolkit from Semrush. Compare coverage of the platforms your buyers use.
