Stripe Billing
How to automate Stripe Billing
API and webhooks
Billing is driven by the Stripe API, with endpoints for subscriptions, invoices and customers. Stripe sends webhook events to your HTTPS endpoint as subscriptions and invoices change. An idea: when an invoice fails after retries, flag the account in HubSpot so customer success can reach out before the customer churns.
Built-in automation
Smart Retries and automatic card updates run on their own. The hosted customer portal lets customers update cards and manage plans without contacting you. Stripe Workflows, the no-code builder in the Dashboard, can also react to Stripe events with conditional steps. An idea: when a subscription is cancelled, trigger a workflow that tags the customer and notifies your team.
MCP server
Stripe's official MCP server, at mcp.stripe.com, covers the Stripe API including subscriptions, invoices and the billing portal. It is in public preview and uses OAuth or API keys. An idea: ask Claude to summarise this week's cancellations by plan, in a sandbox first. Keep API key permissions tight.
No-code automation
Zapier lists a Stripe app, which can act on Stripe events without code. Check that it covers the subscription events you need before you build a flow.
