How to automate Penpot
API and webhooks
Penpot offers an open API, access tokens for authentication and outbound webhooks that notify other apps when a file is created or updated or a comment is added. An example: send a message to Slack whenever a comment is added to a file that is in review.
MCP server
Penpot publishes an official MCP server. It has three parts: the server, a plugin inside Penpot that connects the open file, and an MCP client such as Cursor or Claude. You can use the hosted remote version, with a URL in your account integrations, or run it locally with Node.js. You authenticate with a personal MCP key. Use it to turn a design into code or to build screens from a code component library.
Native integrations
The plugin system lets developers add custom extensions, and the integrations page lists the plugin API, webhooks and the MCP server as the main routes. Check whether a ready-made connector exists for your tool before you build one.
