How to automate Microsoft Teams
Native integrations
Teams connects to the Microsoft 365 apps and supports tabs, bots, message extensions and apps from other vendors. Start with the integrations your team already uses, such as calendar and files, before you add third-party bots.
API and webhooks
Teams APIs are part of Microsoft Graph. They let you create and manage teams and channels, send reminders, set up online meetings and handle calls. For posting alerts into a chat or channel, Microsoft points to the Workflows app, with a trigger called When a Teams webhook request is received. An idea: send a message into a channel whenever a deal is won in your CRM.
MCP server
Microsoft documents a Teams MCP server under Agent 365, marked as preview. It exposes tools for chats, channels, members and messages. Treat it as a preview feature and expect changes. An idea: have an assistant draft a weekly summary for a channel, and post it only after you approve it.
No-code automation
The Power Automate connector for Teams can post messages and adaptive cards, reply in channels and create Teams meetings. Zapier also has a Microsoft Teams app, with triggers such as a new channel, a new chat message and a new team member. An idea: when a new lead reaches your CRM, post it into a sales channel through Zapier.
