Wix vs WooCommerce

Wix logovsWooCommerce logo
Wix is a hosted no-code builder that gets a small business site or shop live fast on one bill. WooCommerce is a free WordPress plugin that gives you more control and more upkeep.

The verdict

For a small business or solo founder with no developer who needs a site or a small shop this week, I'd pick Wix. The built-in booking and shop tools save a lot of glue work, and the free plan lets you try the editor first. If your content and SEO already live on WordPress, or you have an unusual product and a developer to hand, I'd pick WooCommerce. If you plan a design-led marketing site that will be tested and tuned all the time, I'd look at neither and consider Webflow instead. Whichever you choose, check which plan or extensions hold the features you need before you commit.

Who each is for

Wix logo

Choose Wix if…

Pick WooCommerce if WordPress is already your site and you want the shop to live inside it. It suits content-heavy stores, businesses with unusual products and teams with a developer or a trusted agency. The core has no platform fee or revenue share, and you decide the host, the payment processor and every extension. In return, updates, backups, security and performance are your job. Extensions each have their own price and update cycle, so tally them up. The AI integration is a developer preview, so try it on a test store first. If nobody wants to maintain the store, a hosted builder will suit you better.

Choose WooCommerce if…

Pick Wix if you have no developer, little time and no wish to manage servers. You start from a template or an AI builder, adjust it by hand, connect payments and publish, all in one login. Ecommerce, bookings, a blog, email campaigns and SEO tools sit inside the product. Wix Studio exists for agencies and more advanced builds if you outgrow the standard editor. The trade-offs are clear. Many useful tools sit on higher plans, you have limited control over code and speed, and moving the site off Wix later means rebuilding it. For a small business that needs a working site quickly, those are usually acceptable.
