OmniConvert vs Optimizely

OmniConvert logovsOptimizely logo
Omniconvert is an ecommerce testing platform with surveys, personalisation and a free tier. Optimizely is a large experimentation platform for web and feature testing, sold through sales.

The verdict

If you run an online shop, especially on Shopify, and want to start a testing habit without a big commitment, I'd pick Omniconvert.

If testing is a team's job, several groups run tests at once and engineers need server-side tests and feature flags, I'd pick Optimizely.

For a small B2B team, I would pick neither first. Omniconvert assumes a shop, and Optimizely's sales process and cost are out of proportion to a small site. Look at Convert Experiences or VWO instead. And remember that any test needs enough visitors to reach a result.

Who each is for

OmniConvert logo

Choose OmniConvert if…

Pick Omniconvert if you sell online and want testing, overlays and on-site surveys from one vendor. The visual editor suits marketers, and custom code covers harder tests. Segments, product tests and Shopify tooling all assume a storefront, which is a strength for a shop.

It is a weaker fit for server-side testing inside a software product, and for B2B lead generation, where you have to translate some of the ideas. Be clear whether you are buying Explore, the established product, or the newer Nexus.

Choose Optimizely if…

Pick Optimizely if you run a large optimisation programme and want web testing, feature testing and content tools from one vendor. SDKs for several languages let engineers test inside your own code, and a shared platform keeps a record of what each team learned.

There is no public price list. Expect a demo and a scoping conversation, and budget for the people who will own the roadmap and add the SDKs. Skip it if you want to start testing this week.
