Clearscope
Why Clearscope
Clearscope is an AI-powered SEO platform that analyses top-ranking pages for a target keyword, then grades draft content on coverage and relevance. It combines topic research, AI drafting assistance and performance tracking to help pages rank in Google and appear in AI answer tools. It integrates with Google Docs, WordPress and Google Search Console.
What it does
Clearscope is a content optimisation platform. You enter a target keyword and it analyses the pages that already rank for it. It then gives you a brief with suggested terms and a read on search intent, and it grades your draft against that brief while you write.
It also tracks how your brand shows up in answers from ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, and it monitors the content you have already published.
Why you would need it
The pain starts when more than one person writes for the same site. One writer covers a topic properly. Another skips half of what searchers expect to find. The editor argues from gut feeling, and the article goes live with gaps.
Clearscope replaces that argument with a list of topics the top-ranking pages already cover and a score you can see. The second reason is newer. More buyers now ask an AI tool before they open Google, and you want to know whether your pages get cited there.
Where it fits
It sits between keyword research and publishing. A keyword tool such as Ahrefs or Semrush tells you which topic to pick. Clearscope tells the writer what that article has to cover. It connects with Google Docs, WordPress and Google Search Console, so the brief lives where the writing happens and the ranking data comes back after publication.
It replaces the keyword spreadsheets and content checklists that a content team would otherwise stitch together by hand.
What stands out
- Search intent analysis sits next to the term suggestions, so a brief says what the searcher wants and which words to use.
- Query tracking covers ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude as well as Google.
- Drafting, editing and content analytics live in the same workflow.
- Users and projects are unlimited on every plan, so you can add a freelance writer without a licence conversation.
My take
I'd pick it when content is a main acquisition channel and you have several writers who need one standard. The score is a guide. If writers chase a perfect grade, the text fills with terms and reads badly. Tell them to use it to find gaps and then write for the reader.
If you publish a few articles a quarter, a checklist and a keyword tool will do the same job for much less effort.
Verdict
Pick Clearscope when a team publishes regularly and a shared brief and score will save editing time. Skip it when you publish only now and then, or when one person writes everything and already knows the topic.
Notes
Your note
Before you choose
Limits on queries and pages
Plans cap the number of tracked queries, tracked pages, topic explorations and drafts. A growing site will hit those caps and need add-ons or the next plan. Count how many articles you brief and refresh in a quarter before you choose a tier.

No free plan
There is a 14-day free trial and no free plan. Use the trial on three real briefs from your own backlog, not on a demo keyword. You want to see whether your writers actually open it.
Scores can steer the writing
A grade rewards covering the terms top pages use. That helps with gaps, and it can push every article towards the same shape. Decide up front who may ignore a suggestion.
Alternatives to compare
Surfer SEO and Frase do similar work. Run the same keyword through each and compare the briefs. Also check that the Google Docs and WordPress connections match how your team writes.
