A record has two names: an address you can open and a short code you can say out loud.
Numbers
Each list in a workspace counts its own records: 1, 2, 3. A number is consecutive, never reused (an archived record keeps its number) and never changes.
Codes
A code is the letter of the list and the number: D-142 is deliverable 142 of the workspace. The letters registered today:
| Letter | List |
|---|---|
C | Contacts |
D | Deliverables |
T | Tasks |
R | Risks |
The other kinds have no code yet. Looking a record up by code alone, including the form {workspace}/D-142 (for example guardey/D-1), is coming soon.
Addresses
The address of a list is /{workspace}/{list}; the address of a record adds its number:
A deliverable and a task may carry a readable tail after the number (142-launch-plan). The tail is ignored when the address is read, so a wrong or missing tail still opens the record. A deliverable page has the tabs tasks, documents and decisions; a contact page has properties, activity and relationships.
A task has no page of its own: its address is the Tasks tab of its deliverable with the task open, /{workspace}/deliverables/{deliverable number}/tasks?open={task number}.
When an address moves
A number that was ever valid is never "not found". The database answers with one of: the record is here, it is archived (its address still shows it), it was merged into another record (you are redirected to the survivor), it lives in another list (you are redirected there), or you cannot read it.
