Mixpanel vs SurveyMonkey

Mixpanel logovsSurveyMonkey logo
Mixpanel measures what users do in your product through events, funnels and retention. SurveyMonkey collects what people say through surveys. Behaviour against opinion.

The verdict

If you run a software product and need to know who uses a feature and where new users drop out, pick Mixpanel. If you need to measure satisfaction, run NPS, take an employee pulse or research a market, pick SurveyMonkey. A small B2B team with a live product should start with Mixpanel, since you cannot ask good survey questions until you know where the problem is. Once Mixpanel shows a drop, a short survey to that cohort is a good way to find the reason. A team with no product to instrument, only customers and staff to ask, needs SurveyMonkey.

Who each is for

Choose Mixpanel if…

Mixpanel suits product, growth and analytics teams at software companies. You can analyse funnels and retention without SQL, and the free plan is large enough to learn on. It also offers session replay, experiments and feature flags, and a hosted MCP server so an AI assistant can query your data. Its weak point is not the tool but the tracking. Spend time on a tracking plan first, with agreed event names and properties, or the charts mislead you. It is built for product behaviour, not ad attribution or website content analysis. Paid plans follow event volume, so estimate yours.

Choose SurveyMonkey if…

SurveyMonkey suits B2B teams in marketing, HR and customer experience that need feedback from customers, staff or a market. A large template library gets you to a working survey in minutes, and non-technical people can run it. Responses can go into Salesforce, Power BI or Tableau. The free Basic plan limits questions and responses, and paid plans tier features, seats and response volumes, so estimate your yearly responses first. If a form is really an input to your own database, a lighter builder such as Typeform or Tally fits better.
