LinkedIn Ads vs X Ads

LinkedIn Ads logovsX Ads logo
LinkedIn Ads targets professionals by job title and company, while X Ads targets by keyword, conversation and follower lookalikes. LinkedIn is the safer B2B default and X is a cheaper test for timely topics.

The verdict

For a small B2B team, I'd pick LinkedIn Ads first. You choose exactly who sees the ad, and the platform is built for work audiences. I'd pick X Ads for a specific job: reaching people during a live conversation, or promoting content to an audience that already follows your space. It has no minimum budget, so it is a cheap test. Engagement on X has moved a lot in recent years, so read the results before you scale. If your buyers barely use X, skip it and put the budget on LinkedIn.

Who each is for

Choose LinkedIn Ads if…

Pick LinkedIn Ads if your buyers are identifiable by role or company and you can accept a higher cost per lead. It offers four ad formats, several ways to send conversions back and a documented Marketing API. There is no published rate card, so a small capped test is the way to learn prices. It is not set and forget, because audiences, bids and creative need regular review. Narrow audiences give small volumes, so check the size before launch.

X Ads logo

Choose X Ads if…

Pick X Ads if your buyers follow live news and launch conversations on X, and you have timely content to put next to them. There is no subscription and no minimum budget. Formats include promoted posts, carousels, video sponsorships and takeovers, and lead forms can be attached to ads. The Ads API is gated: you submit an access form and wait for a review, so plan for that delay if you want reporting automated. The integration list is shorter than on bigger platforms.
