Gamma vs Microsoft PowerPoint

Gamma logovsMicrosoft PowerPoint logo
Gamma generates a first draft of a deck, document or web page from a prompt and lives on the web. PowerPoint is the standard slide file everyone opens, with full manual control.

The verdict

If you often need a quick pitch outline, internal update or one-pager, and momentum matters more than pixel control, pick Gamma.

If your decks leave the company as files, need a strict brand template, or must work offline, or if you already pay for Microsoft 365, pick PowerPoint.

You can combine them. Draft quickly in Gamma, export, and polish in PowerPoint. That works well for a one-off pitch. For decks that customers or a board will receive, I'd keep PowerPoint as the default, since the file format is the standard. Use Gamma to get past the blank first slide.

Who each is for

Gamma logo

Choose Gamma if…

Pick PowerPoint if you present to customers, investors or a board, or if your company already runs on Microsoft 365. The web version is free with a Microsoft account and supports real-time collaboration, with files in OneDrive. Desktop apps work offline.

It has an add-in platform and a JavaScript API, so code can add slides and read a presentation. Copilot in the desktop apps comes with paid Microsoft 365 plans, so check the edition before you promise a feature.

PowerPoint does not enforce your brand. Set up slide masters, keep one shared master deck for sales and review pricing slides on a fixed schedule.

Choose Microsoft PowerPoint if…

Pick Gamma if you are a founder or operator who would rather edit an AI draft than build slides from scratch. The first draft is good enough to edit, the card model also works for longer documents and one-page sites, and sharing a link is easier than emailing a heavy file.

It has a free plan, an API and an official MCP server, and the API needs Pro or higher.

Decks can look made in Gamma unless you customise them, and the copy is generic until a person edits it. Presenting from a live link is fine until the venue Wi-Fi fails, so export a copy. Skip it if a strict brand template or print output is the main need.
